The Rules of Blue Ice Art Cup 2006  25th to 28th of January
Blue Ice Art will organize an Ice Sculpture Cup competition: BIA-CUP 2006 (8th international BIA competition). There will be 3 different competitions in 4 days.
Blue Ice Art Pello Oy järjestää jäänveistokilpailun: BIA-CUP 2006 (8. kansainvälinen BIA-kilpailu). Cup-kilpailussa on kolme erilaista osakilpailua neljän päivän aikana.

This ice sculpting competition is being arranged with the permission of the international organisation Association De Sculpture Sur Neige Et Glace.
Veistokilpailu järjestetään Association De Sculpture Sur Neige Et Glace - järjestön luvalla.

TEAM COMPOSITION: JOUKKUEEN KOKOONPANO
Each team is composed of two persons.
Joukkueessa on kaksi veistäjää.                                                                                      
THE THEME: TEEMA:
Themes are given by organizers: music, literature and history.
Veistoksille on määritelty teemat: musiikki, kirjallisuus ja historia.

THE ORIENTATION ALTERNATIVE: TYYLISUUNTA:
The orientation alternative is REALISTIC.
Tyylisuunta kilpailuissa on REALISTINEN.

TOOLS and EQUIPMENT: TYÖKALUT JA VARUSTEET
Each team uses its own equipment. The electric power is 230 V,~50Hz (16 A, Scandinavian standard). Power cords will be supplied by organizers. Make provision for a transformer if necessary. There will be a possibility to rent some electric or gas-powered saws for cutting blocks if necessary. There will also be possibility to sharpen your tools (or get them sharpened for you).
Joukkueet käyttävät omia työkalujaan. Veistopaikoilla on sähköt. Kilpailun aikana on mahdollisuus vuokrata sähkö- ja moottorisahoja. Kilpailun aikana on myös työkalujen teroitus mahdollisuus.

WHO CAN ATTEND? KUKA VOI OSALLISTUA?
Competition is limited to 15 teams only. Competition is for artists, sculptors and teachers. The competitors must arrange their transport to Rovaniemi by themselves. If you are travelling by car – you can drive directly to Pello.
Kilpailuun otetaan vain 15 joukkuetta. Kilpailu on tarkoitettu taiteilijoille, veistäjille ja opettajille. Kilpailijoiden täytyy itse järjestää matkansa Rovaniemelle (ROVANIEMI) ja takaisin. Autolla tulevat voivat ajaa suoraan Pelloon.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE BIA CUP 2006 COMPETITION
PÄÄSYVAATIMUKSET BIA CUP 2006 KILPAILUUN
Send your application form carefully filled out, as soon as possible. Send also your curriculum vitae, along with photos of your work. Each team must also enclose a preliminary sketch of their work with the application. These sketches are not for judging purposes.
This application form must be delivered to the contest secretary before the 31th of December 2005 by mail or E-mail.
Lähetä ilmoittautumislomake huolellisesti täytettynä BIA:lle mahdollisimman pian. Lähetä myös ansioluettelosi ja kuvia töistäsi. Mukaan täytyy liittää myös alustava luonnospiirustus veistoksista. Luonnoksia ei käytetä arvostelussa.
Ilmoittautumislomake pitää lähettää ennen 31. joulukuuta 2005 kilpailun sihteerille postissa tai sähköpostina.

The Organizing committee decides in (for or against) your participation. Teams will be notified by January 9th when accepted to compete in the BIA CUP 2006.
Please note that teams must confirm their participation the January 12th 2006. Travel itinerary must be sent by16th of January 2006.
Järjestäjät päättävät osallistumisoikeudesta kilpailuun. Joukkueille ilmoitetaan viimeistään 9.1.2006 mennessä BIA CUP 2006 kilpailuun hyväksymisestä.
HUOM! joukkueen pitää ilmoittaa osallistumisestaan 12.1.2006 mennessä. Matka-aikataulu on lähetettävä 16.1.2006 mennessä BIA:lle.

Travelling from Sweden or Norway, up to 150 € / team, Travelling from Europe, up to 300 € / team.Travelling from outside of Europe, up to 600 € / team.
Matkustus  Ruotsista tai Norjasta – enintään 150 € / joukkue. Matkustus Euroopasta – enintään 300 € / joukkue. Matkustus Euroopan ulkopuolelta – enintään 600 € / joukkue.

ICE: JÄÄ:
In the competition the team use ice cut from the nature lake. Thickness of the ice about 50 cm but may vary. The surface of the ice (about 10cm) is covered with snow, not clear.
Jää on luonnon jäätä järvestä. Paksuus on noin 50 cm, mutta voi vaihdella. Jään pinnassa saattaa olla noin 10 cm lumijäätä eli kohvaa, joka ei ole kirkasta.

As sculpting material you are allowed to use only ice and water. Natural snow can be used, but only as a binding material. Other additional supporting framework, settings, decorations or colours are not allowed to be used in the competition. The ice block used for sculpting is to be used totally.
Veistomateriaalina saa käyttää vain jäätä ja vettä. Luonnon lunta voi käyttää, mutta vain liittämiseen. Kaikki muut tuet, muotit ja materiaalit tai värit ovat kiellettyjä. Veistettävä jää tulee käyttää kokonaan.   

In the competition may participate only members whose names have been registered for the group in advance. The competition leader must be informed about any changes of the team before the beginning of the competition. Once the competition has started no replacing of team members will be allowed.
Kilpailuun voi osallistua vain etukäteen rekisteröidyt joukkueen jäsenet. Kilpailun johtoa on informoitava jos joukkueeseen tulee muutoksia ennen kilpailun alkua. Kilpailun alkamisen jälkeen ei veistäjiä saa enää vaihtaa.

The internal division of tasks in the team is for the team to decide. The staff of BIA assists in lifting and placing ice blocks according to instructions given by the team. The BIA staff is not allowed to help with the sculpting itself. All external assistance and support, with exception of those in accordance with the BIA regulations, are prohibited during the competition.
Joukkueen tulee itse päättää tehtävistä joukkueen sisällä. BIA henkilökunta avustaa jääpalojen nostamisessa ja paikalleen asettelussa joukkueen ohjeiden mukaan. Apua ei kuitenkaan voi käyttää veistämiseen. Kaikki muu apu tai tuki on kiellettyä kilpailun aikana, ellei sitä ole BIA:n säännöissä hyväksytty.

The competitors are provided with a scaffolding (if needed), a snow shovel, a snow pusher (scoop), wooden working scaffolds and platforms and halogen lamps. BIA sees that there is electricity and water. The electric power is 230 V,~50Hz (16 A, Scandinavian standard plug.). Only BIA provided lights are allowed for safety reasons.
Veistäjien saatavana on (tarvittaessa) rakennustelineitä, lumilapio, lumikola, puisia pukkeja ja työvaloja. BIA järjestää veistopaikalle sähköt ja veden. Vain BIA:n valaisimet hyväksytään turvallisuus syistä. 

Every participant is responsible for own safety. The competitors clean the working area themselves and insure that all remaining ice pieces and skims are taken to the appointed places.
Jokainen veistäjä on vastuussa omasta turvallisuudestaan. Veistäjät pitävät alueensa itse puhtaana ja katsovat että ylimääräiset jääpalat on siirretty niille osoitetulle paikalle.

In the valuation the jury takes into consideration both the artistic impression and the technical skills.
Arvostelussa otetaan huomioon sekä taiteellinen vaikutelma, että tekninen osaaminen.

A part of the ice can be used for the name or symbol of the work. The competition time includes the cleaning of the competition area.
Osa jäästä voidaan käyttää työn nimeen tai tunnukseen. Veistoaikaan sisältyy alueen siivous.

Please make sure you take your own personal tools, also that your electrical tools work in Finland! Electric and traditional motor saws can be rented through the competition office
Varmista että otat omat työkalusi ja että ne toimivat Suomessa. Sähkö- ja moottorisahoja on mahdollista vuokrata kilpailun aikana.

We hope competitors will take with them their national flag, which can be placed by the team's area.
Toivomme veistäjien tuovan mukanaan maansa lipun, jota voidaan pitää esillä veistopaikalla.

BIA reserves the right to use the competition works for marketing and other commercial purposes.
BIA omistaa kaikki oikeudet veistoksiin ja niiden käyttöön kaupallisesti.

BIA has taken out a liability insurance as prescribed by law. The extent and details should be checked at the competition office. BIA is not responsible for theft, disappearance of property, or any other inconvenience concerning competitors. BIA does not take responsibility for death or injury of a competitor outside the responsibility stated in the BIA insurance. Each competitor must have a personal valid travel and life insurance.
BIA on ottanut lakisääteiset vakuutukset. Yksityiskohdat vakuutuksesta löytyvät kilpailutoimistosta. BIA ei ole vastuussa veistäjien omaisuuteen kohdistuvasta varkaudesta, katoamisesta tai rikkoutumisesta.

For each participating team is reserved free accommodation and meals. Each team is responsible for own personal expenses (phone, alcoholic drinks etc.).
Joukkueille on varattu majoitus ja ruokailut. Omista henkilökohtaisista kuluistaan vastaa kukin veistäjä itse (puhelin, alkoholi juomat jne.).
